At He Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens (WMK), we're proud to support over 100 kindergartens across a variety of regions—from Whanganui, Central Plateau, Horowhenua, Manawatū, Kāpiti, Porirua, Greater Wellington, Upper Hutt, Wairarapa and South Otago. We also offer a unique home-based service, Etu Ao, in Porirua and Levin, with a special focus on Pasific families.

Today, more than 6,000 children are part of the Whānau Manaaki kindergarten family, with an additional 150 children enrolled in our Etu Ao home-based programme. Together, we're building strong foundations for lifelong learning and wellbeing.

Community Description

Waikanae kindergarten is situated near to a nature reserve, which we use regularly to extend learning opportunities in Te Ngahere - our Bush Explorers programme. We have a rich, well-resourced learning environment, where our extensive outdoor area provides challenge and opportunities for both active and quiet experiences.

We have a genuine commitment to growing our Te Tiriti-based practice. We value our parents and whānau being involved with the learning of their tamariki and their daily life at kindergarten.

Our Kindergarten is near the local railway station and shops which are about 10 minutes' walk away and we serve whānau from a wide geographical area.

The kindergarten predominantly feeds into two local schools and has children attending both kindergarten and local childcare centres.

We are licenced for 42 children who attend for 6 hours each day. You will lead our team of 5 other teachers.

As a 0.7 part time Teacher your total hours of work will be 32 hours per week, worked as follows:

Monday: 8am to 3pm with 1/2 hr unpaid break

Tuesday: 11am to 4.30pm with 1/2 hr unpaid break

Wednesday: 11am to 4.30pm with 1/2hr unpaid break

Thursday: 11am to 4.30pm with 1/2hr unpaid break

Friday: 8am to 3pm with 1/2hr unpaid break

We are looking for an enthusiastic ECE kaiako who:

  • Has a love for nature and fostering learning through the environment, including supporting our Bush Explorers programme and fostering care and respect for te taiao.

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and bicultural practice and values whanaungatanga.

  • Builds strong, respectful relationships with tamariki, whānau, and colleagues, and contributes positively to team culture.

  • Is reflective, adaptable, and open to ongoing professional learning
