ASSISTANT GROUNDS KEEPER - HUKA LODGE - TAUPO

Long regarded as one of the world's most revered and inspirational luxury accommodations, Huka Lodge is set among established gardens along the banks of the surging Waikato River.

We are looking for a passionate groundskeeper to assist in tending to our beautiful Lodge and 8 acres of gardens.

What we're looking for:

• A local who is passionate about the landscape
• Able to work Monday to Friday pm (with some weekends)
• A pleasant manner – and with confidence and charisma, share our fascinating gardens with our Huka Lodge guests
• Ability to work without supervision and as part of a team
• Fit and healthy to work in the outdoors in all weather conditions
• Someone that knows and loves planting, pruning, composting, fertilizing, and irrigation

Overview of responsibilities:

• In the absence of the Groundsman, take responsibility for the measuring (moisture levels) and remedial watering of all lodge lawns including being proficient in the software required to control the irrigation system.
• Maintenance and care of all lawn mowing equipment and the use of to mow and care for all lodge lawns.
• To be proficient in the use of chemicals, sprays and the safe handling of such substances.
• To assist when directed to do so in the upkeep and maintenance of all gardens at the lodge or staff house.
• To assist with the training of new staff members in the department
• Maintain a clean working environment around the lodge, ensuring all equipment is used in the correct manner
• Ensure correct procedures with reference to security, Health & Safety and fire procedures are adhered to at all times
• Plant and weed in gardens and grounds as directed.
• Remove all gardening rubbish from gardens to yard and dispose of appropriately.
• Clean and store all gardening tools and implements at the end of the day.
• Attend to any other maintenance jobs as required, especially during other department members holidays and sick days.
