Wellington Central, Wellington, New Zealand Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Full time NZ$200,000 - NZ$250,000 per year

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations - from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

We're looking for a Group Manager to lead funding and integration across either the North or South sub-region of the Central Region. You'll oversee the planning, funding, and monitoring of $700–$900 million in primary, community and mental health services, ensuring services are well-designed, integrated, and responsive to community needs.

This role is about turning strategy into action. You'll lead a team of regional and portfolio managers, work closely with hospital and community partners, and drive new models of care that improve access and outcomes for priority populations.

About the Team

This role sits within the Planning, Funding & Outcomes team, which commissions services across the Central Region – including Midcentral, Whanganui, Capital & Coast/Hutt Valley, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa. The team works closely with Hospital & Specialist Services to shift care closer to communities and deliver new models of care.

About you

You're experienced in commissioning and funding, with a track record of leading complex programmes across large organisations. You're confident working with diverse stakeholders and translating strategy into clear, actionable plans that improve access and outcomes.

You will have:

  • A relevant tertiary or professional qualification
  • Extensive senior leadership experience in commissioning and funding management
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and manage multi-million dollar budgets
  • Strong relationship-building skills across sectors, including with Māori and Pacific communities
  • Experience in service design, integration, and navigating regulated environments
