Hays Recruitment is seeking expressions of interest from a qualified locksmith to join the maintenance team at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. This unique opportunity involves working in one of the most remote and challenging environments on Earth.
Location: McMurdo Station, Antarctica (approximately 1000 residents in summer season)
Rate: $50 per hour (PAYE)
Deployment Dates: From January 2026 onwards, return dates are negotiable
Your experience should include maintaining the locks on residential and industrial door systems.
What to expect when you're down there:
- Accommodation provided (you will be in a bunkroom)
- Free food (the meals aren't Michelin starred, but they're still pretty good)
- Free flights from any major NZ airport
- $50 per hour
- Work schedule: Mon - Sat, 7am - 5pm

- Medical and dental checks
- Criminal background and security checks
- Vaccinations (flu and tdap)
