Location: Fraser Park, Lower Hutt, Wellington.

Hours: 20 hours per week (0.5 FTE)

Contract: Fixed-term

Start Date: 26/01/2026

About The Role
We're looking for a Sports Physiotherapist (0.5 FTE) to join the Wellington Phoenix Football Club's academy medical and performance team. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys working with youth athletes and has a genuine interest in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and pitch-side support.

The role is 20 hours per week, with weekend work required for match-day coverage across the academy. You'll be part of a supportive physio team, working alongside another 0.5 FTE physio and a full-time physiotherapist who coordinates scheduling, provides mentoring, and leads ongoing professional development.

The Wellington Phoenix Academy has eight teams. For this position, you'll be working with the Men's 14's, 15's, 16's and 18's, and the Women's 16's and 18's.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide physiotherapy support to academy players across a range of age groups.
  • Carry out injury assessments and develop practical rehab and return-to-play plans.
  • Help with weekend match-day cover, including managing acute injuries on the sideline.
  • Work closely with coaches, sports science staff, and the wider medical team to support player performance and wellbeing.
  • Assist with injury tracking, monitoring player loads, and keeping accurate notes.
  • Take part in regular CPD, case discussions, and skill-development sessions with the physiotherapy team.

About You
We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a New Zealand-registered physiotherapist.
  • Has a current New Zealand practising certificate.
  • Holds relevant first aid and/or sideline management certifications.
  • Has experience or strong interest in sports physiotherapy, particularly football, or adolescent athlete development.
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
  • Has strong communication skills and can build rapport with players, coaches, and staff.
  • Is reliable, organised, and proactive in delivering excellent clinical care.
  • Has a full driver's license and access to a vehicle as you will be required to drive to various football grounds in the wider Wellington region, and occasionally around New Zealand.
  • Is efficient with the notes software Gensolve and is timely at completing documentation.

What We Offer

  • A supportive, growth-focused environment with CPD and mentoring.
  • Opportunity to work in an elite football development programme.
  • Collaborative team culture with shared coverage and flexible scheduling across physiotherapy staff.
  • Access to high-quality facilities and interdisciplinary support.
  • Exposure to A-League physiotherapy.
