Role Overview:

The Microservices Chapter Lead is a strategic and technical leadership role responsible for guiding a chapter of engineers specializing in microservices architecture. This role blends people development, technical excellence, and strategic alignment to ensure the chapter delivers scalable, secure, and high-performing services across squads.

The Chapter Lead is expected to be hands-on and actively contribute to solution design, coding, and technical problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Lead the design and implementation of microservices architecture using modern frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, ).
  • Be hands-on in coding, reviewing, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
  • Define and promote best practices in microservices development, CI/CD, containerization, and cloud-native design.
  • Collaborate with squads to ensure architectural consistency and technical quality across services.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

People Development:

  • Mentor and coach chapter members to grow their technical and professional capabilities.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify skill gaps and organize targeted training or learning opportunities.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of new chapter members.

Strategic Alignment:

  • Ensure chapter members are effectively deployed across squads to meet business needs.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Remove blockers and create an environment conducive to high performance and collaboration.

Community & Knowledge Sharing:

  • Facilitate regular chapter meetings to share insights, challenges, and best practices.
  • Promote cross-squad collaboration and consistency in engineering standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in software development, with strong expertise in microservices.
  • Proven leadership experience in a technical role.
  • Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools (Jenkins, Git, Terraform).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong hands-on coding skills and ability to lead by example.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in Agile environments and familiarity with squad/chapter/tribe models.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Passion for mentoring and developing talent.
