About the Role

As a
Senior Data Specialist
, you'll play a pivotal role in both
pre-sales
and
technical delivery
. This is a hands-on, client-facing position where you will:

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of modern data platform solutions on Azure (Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks, Azure SQL).
  • Partner with the sales team to shape solutions, support RFPs, estimate work, and present technical approaches to clients.
  • Engage directly with NZ enterprise & public sector customers, running workshops, discovery sessions, and technical deep dives.
  • Collaborate with Microsoft, including our Sydney-based Microsoft Practice, to align solution strategies and leverage partner programs.
  • Ensure best practices across data architecture, governance, security, and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership during delivery and mentor junior engineers.
  • Stay across the latest Microsoft data advancements and help uplift our practice capability.

Skills & Experience

Must Have:

  • 7+ years' experience in data engineering or modern data platform development
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Services (Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake, Databricks, Azure SQL)
  • Advanced skills in SQL, Python, PySpark, and data transformation frameworks
  • Experience with CI/CD for data pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar)
  • Strong data architecture, modelling, and governance knowledge
  • Excellent communication & client-facing skills
  • Experience working with NZ enterprise or public-sector clients
  • Proven end-to-end delivery ownership

Nice to Have:

  • Pre-sales, consulting, or solution architecture experience
  • Exposure to data strategy or roadmapping
  • Power BI or analytics experience
  • Azure certifications (Data Engineer, Architect etc.)
