Everybody Eats is a multi-award-winning charity restaurant in Aotearoa, transforming surplus food into chef-crafted three-course meals served on a pay-what-you-can basis, because good kai shouldn't come with barriers.

We create spaces where everyone is welcome, where community and connection are built through shared meals made with care from rescued ingredients.

About the Role

We're looking for a motivated and community-minded Restaurant Manager to lead our Wellington site. This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the restaurant across food service, volunteers, and operations, balancing hospitality excellence with a sense of purpose.

The role is minimum 30 hours per week (hours negotiable), usually spread across five days, with four of those days on the floor. The restaurant currently operates Sunday to Wednesday for regular dinner services, with Thursday evenings available for events or activations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a minimum of four dinner services per week, ensuring smooth, safe, and manaaki-driven operations from setup to pack-down.
  • Lead, recruit, and support volunteers, fostering an inclusive and empowering environment.
  • Manage restaurant operations: rostering, stock, cash handling, compliance, and reporting.
  • Plan and deliver local fundraising events, activations, and catering opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local partners, donors, and suppliers.
  • Ensure health, safety, and food compliance standards are always met.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef, Operations Manager and national team to share stories and celebrate impact.

About You

You're an experienced hospitality professional who values people as much as good food. Calm under pressure, great with volunteers & people, and organised behind the scenes. You're at home leading a dinner service or developing local partnerships/relationships.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in restaurant or hospitality management
  • Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills
  • Understanding of food safety, liquor licensing, and compliance
  • Event or fundraising experience (preferred)
  • A passion for sustainability, community, and manaakitanga
  • LCQ/Duty Managers Cert and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
