The Company

My client is a multinational company with significant operations in NZ. The business is ultimately owned by a listed Australian business but this is a traditional NZ business with a footprint all over the country. The Asset base is $1.4 billion so this is a business with significant capital investments.

The Role

As the Capital Accountant you will report to the Financial Reporting Manager. You will have ownership to provide the insights and reporting on the performance of capital related activities, including forecasting and actual performance analysis. There is also a significant focus on automation and customer service so this is a role where you can truly business partner operations of the business. Your key deliverable's include:

  • Business partner operations to ensure reporting on capital expenditure is captured in line with tax & IFRS standards
  • Capital budgeting & forecasting
  • Support the business around understanding capital spend and where projects are at
  • ROI reporting and calculating NPV in conjunction with business partners
  • Preparation and review of any impairment calculations as required
  • Provide ad hoc analysis for projects
  • Ensure internal business processes are current to capture relevant and up-to-date information on capital expenditure
  • Review R&M vs capital expenditure and ensure correct accounting treatment is applied
  • Ensure year end fixed assets are recorded accurately and review impairment calculations as required
  • Own the Audit and statutory reporting on capital related work
  • Implement standard processes and procedures for capex appraisals and depreciation methods, interacting with corporate head office in Aus
  • Other ad hoc duties as required.

Your Profile

To be considered for this role, we are looking for an individual with the following skills & attributes:

  • Experience with understanding ROI and NPV
  • Capital project accounting experience
  • Strong analytical and business partnering skills
  • Ability to present to senior stakeholders
  • Investment case development and analysis experience
  • An individual who is motivated to get in and make improvements and use their initiative to make changes
  • Relationship building skills with operations
  • Preferably a Qualified Accountant
