The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Bid Writer -Water to join our Energy & Utilities team on a 9-month contract. Reporting to the General Manager -Water NZ, this role leads the development of compelling proposals from early Planning Phases through to negotiation and handover.

You will work closely with subject matter experts, operational leaders, and our national Water team to produce high-quality, customer-focused submissions that reflect Downer's strategy, governance requirements and technical capability. This role is pivotal in securing future work and supporting our continued success in the NZ Water sector.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development and writing of tenders, bids, expressions of interest and market responses.
  • Capture solutions and translate technical information into clear, compelling proposals.
  • Coordinate inputs across internal stakeholders including Operations, Engineering, Commercial, Procurement, Finance, Marketing and People & Culture.
  • Ensure all submissions meet governance requirements and align to internal processes and strategy.
  • Support the handover process, preparing clear documentation for project teams.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in bid writing, proposal development or a similar role within the Water industry.
  • Strong communication, writing and negotiation skills with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret technical content and develop clear, customer-focused solutions.
  • High attention to detail, strong planning skills and an ability to work to deadlines.
