Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

The School of Law, Politics, and Philosophy is seeking a permanent part-time Senior Tutor in Law (0.5 FTE) to join our Tauranga-based team. This role is central to supporting the success of our first-year Law students and ensuring a high-quality learning experience across the Tauranga Law programme.

The Senior Tutor will lead tutorials for key first-year papers, deliver lectures under supervision, provide academic guidance to students, and play an active role in new student recruitment activities. In addition, the position involves overseeing and supporting the wider team of sessional assistants who deliver tutorials and marking across the Tauranga Law programme, ensuring consistency and excellence in teaching delivery.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about student success, highly organised, and able to foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as the role involves working closely with academic staff, sessional tutors, and students.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of legal education in Tauranga and to make a meaningful impact on the student experience.

Salary will be in the range of $79,211 to $95,174 (pro-rata) based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a part-time role hours a week), based on our Tauranga Campus.

Te Piringa Faculty of Law sits within the School of Law, Politics, and Philosophy. Te Piringa is founded in the principles of biculturalism, professionalism, and the study of law in context. From these principles the Faculty works to provide cutting edge legal education in the areas of Māori Governance, Public Policy and Practice, Cyber and New Technology Law, and Environmental Law. 

A core function of the Faculty is to provide education for perspective lawyers in accordance with the standards of the New Zealand Council of Legal Education through the accredited Bachelor of Laws programme. The Faculty offers a range of papers at undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional training levels.
