About us

Stopping Violence Services (Christchurch) Incorporate (SVS) has been serving the Canterbury community for over 40 years, providing non-violence interventions to people who have used family violence.  Each intervention is tailored to the needs of the client, ensuring that every person receives the assistance they need to make positive changes in their lives and the lives of their whānau.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic person to work as a residential support worker.

If you have a desire to work within the Family Harm sector, or already are, this could be a great opportunity to join the second largest stopping violence (stopping family harm) provider within New Zealand, Aotearoa.

You will be working as part of the multi-disciplinary SVS team, providing support and interventions within the SVS emergency housing service for clients who have been using violence, or at risk of using violence, usually within their whānau environment. They may have been issued by Police a temporary order (PSO), to leave the home and have nowhere to stay or have been referred by other community stakeholders.

About you

You will be resilient and flexible, with a positive attitude, and capable of working in a challenging environment, while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven skills in building and maintaining relationships with clients, your team, along with community agencies and funders
  • Excellent communication, relationship and organisational skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • A good understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
