About The Position
In this position you will be leading scientific research in volcanic fluid geochemistry and providing expertise to New Zealand's volcano monitoring programme through GeoNet. You'll support both day-to-day monitoring and volcanic event response.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Leading and advancing research in volcanic fluid geochemistry.
  • Providing expert input into GeoNet field and analytical monitoring.
  • Curating and publishing volcanic fluid datasets for public and scientific use.
  • Supporting volcanic event response and Pacific observatory partners.
  • Collaborating nationally and internationally on volcanology and geothermal science.

About You
You will have:

  • A PhD in geochemistry or equivalent, with expertise in volcanic fluids.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be able to work in multidisciplinary and cross-cultural environments.
  • Field-ready fitness and willingness to deploy at short notice.
  • Motivated to contribute to both research and operational monitoring.

What You'll Bring

  • Demonstrated experience in volcanic fluids geochemistry.
  • Strong skills in analytical methods and/or geochemical modelling.
  • Expertise in thermodynamic and kinetic data interpretation.
  • Post-doctoral or similar research experience.
  • Experience in operational volcano monitoring (desirable).
  • Computational/maths background and willingness to work with iwi/Māori (desirable).

  • The salary range for this position is between $124,511 to $162,350 or more, depending on the successful candidate's experience.
