Clinical Software Architect
- North Shore Hospital Based | Permanent Full-time
- Shape the future of clinical care through innovative software design
- Supporting the Pae Ora vision of longer, healthier lives for all people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.
Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
About the Role
As a Clinical Software Architect, you'll play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing clinical software applications that support busy clinicians across the Northern, Te Manawa Taki and Central regions. You'll ensure applications are fast, intuitive, and clinically safe — enabling front-line staff to deliver high-quality care without disruption.
This is a unique opportunity to lead the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment, while applying rigorous design principles and failure analysis to ensure reliability and safety. You'll collaborate closely with clinicians, digital services teams, and other stakeholders to deliver solutions that make a real difference in healthcare delivery.
About you
You're someone who carries both clinical insight and technical fluency, and you move comfortably in the space where patient care and digital design meet. You understand how clinicians think, what pressures shape their days, and how small design decisions ripple into real-world consequences. You build with that awareness front and centre. Ideally, you have:
- Significant hands-on work with front-line clinicians using clinical software.
- The ability to translate clinical needs into intuitive workflows and user experiences.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a clinical domain and 3+ years designing and implementing clinical applications.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
- Proven ability to create intuitive user interfaces and performant database structures.
Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and a passion for improving healthcare through technology.
A commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and culturally safe design.
