We are looking for an experienced General Practitioner to join our Toi Whānau Health team in Onehunga to work either an early weekday morning or a Saturday morning clinic.

Toi Whānau Health (Onehunga) is a kaupapa Māori general practice clinic located in Auckland. The clinic offers a wide range of whānau-centred services including GP visits, nurse consultations, immunisations, minor surgeries, rongoā Māori, maternity care, and more.

The National Hauora Coalition (NHC) is a charitable social enterprise focused on improving outcomes for whānau. NHC bring innovation and greater effectiveness to health and social programs. It is an experienced thought leader in the outcomes commissioning market and an early adopter of impact investment in New Zealand.

Toi Whānau Health and the NHC are a Māori-led and culturally driven organisation that supports solutions for all whānau, especially those communities that are not well served by health and social services.

Āheinga | The opportunity

Based at Toi Whānau Health in Onehunga, the General Practitioner provides direct-to-patient primary care, patient interventions and treatment both within the medical practice and via online virtual care services. The GP is expected to work at the top of the scope and must be open to delivering care in new and modern ways. Care provided will be whānau-centric, culturally appropriate, and evidence-based.

Ōu pūkenga | Skills required

We are looking for a confident General Practitioner to play a pivotal role at Toi Whānau Health, expanding our early morning (from 7 am) and/or Saturday morning clinics. You will be passionate, empathetic, and driven to improve health outcomes for our high Māori, Pasifika, European and Indian populations. Working across these diverse ethnic groups, you will be confident in interacting across cultures and be sensitive to the needs of those communities.

  • Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery
  • Current registration as a GP in New Zealand (with annual practising certificate)
  • Indemnity insurance cover
  • Ability to work in diverse ethnic communities, especially Māori and Pasifika
  • Excellent time management and collaborative work style
  • Empathetic, approachable and strong communicator
