About the job:

We're looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to join our team in Thames.

The role involves:

  • Providing leadership and mentorship to engineering and operational teams, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and inclusive culture.
  • Overseeing the performance of water and wastewater treatment plants, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and operational procedures.
  • Supporting technical troubleshooting, innovation, and the implementation of new technologies to improve plant performance and efficiency.
  • Maintaining compliance and reporting, including audits, regulatory submissions, and investigations into non-compliance events.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders, including councils, regulators, iwi, and local communities, while promoting health, safety, and continuous improvement.

What you'll need:

  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in a technical or engineering role, with proven leadership experience and a passion for developing teams.
  • Hands-on experience managing water or wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance, ensuring compliance and high performance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or Process Engineering (or equivalent), with a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Strong knowledge of NZ regulatory frameworks (e.g., NES-DW, RMA) and experience navigating compliance requirements.
  • Skilled in SCADA and digital asset management systems, using technology to drive efficiency and innovation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and communities.
  • Analytical, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges.
  • Full Class 1 licence and confident driving manual vehicles.

All preferred candidates will be required to complete preemployment checks to the employer's satisfaction. These checks include but are not limited to, Ministry of Justice criminal conviction report, medical assessment, and drug and alcohol testing.
