At AgFirst Hawke's Bay we specialise in horticultural consultancy, with the main focus being in the pipfruit, kiwifruit and summer fruit sectors.

We offer a broad range of services including pipfruit consultancy, technical and financial advice, applied research, project management, environmental services, independent laboratory services and more.

Job summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the team, and assist with leading the technical services department.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Fruit Laboratory Supervisor - day to day running of kiwifruit and apple maturity clearances
  • Training and onboarding of new/seasonal technical staff
  • Project management in lab and on orchard of applied research trials
  • Project management and development of camera/scanning tool service on orchard
  • Assist with leading and carrying out of HortWatch Services includings soil moisture monitoring, fruit sizing and collection of metric data
  • Assist with sprayer calibrations & other sprayer related services

Skills and Attributes required:

  • A self-starter, able to work unsupervised to complete the tasks required
  • Comfortable with learning new technology
  • Ability to lead and manage teams
  • Attention to detail
  • Good training and facilitation skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Flexibility with work hours and days, particularly around harvest period
  • Full drivers license

Location:

The majority of this work will be carried out at our office and lab locations in Hastings and orchards within the Heretaunga Plains.  There may be some requirement to travel further afield such as Gisborne, on rare occasions.

Main hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.  However, over the harvest period, January - May, weekend work and additional hours will be expected.
