Kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

The Leading Hand is responsible for overseeing and coordinating a team of workers to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard. This role acts as a bridge between the workforce and management, providing hands-on leadership and support in day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of workers on-site and be on call as required
  • Allocate tasks and monitor progress to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to team members.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling of work activities.
  • Perform hands-on duties as required, including operating machinery or tools.
  • Report any issues, delays, or incidents to management promptly.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualifications or certifications (Level 4 Civil Certificate)
  • Proven experience in a similar role or industry(construction)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, or specifications.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
