About the Role

Reporting to the Health and Safety Verification and Assurance Manager, this role provides senior advisory and operational leadership for the delivery of health and safety verification and assurance activities across all Health New Zealand sites and services. The role plays a key role in ensuring compliance with Health NZ's expectations, legislation, and industry standards.

You'll be responsible for planning and conducting assurance activities, analysing performance data, and providing expert advice to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement. Working closely with regional and local health and safety teams, you'll help ensure consistent delivery of verification processes and contribute to strengthening Health NZ's safety culture. This role also oversees assurance systems and reporting, using insights to identify risks, monitor controls, and drive improvement across the organisation.

The Health and Safety team plays a vital role in ensuring consistent, high-quality service across all district sites, shifts, and professional groups. Working remotely, team members collaborate to deliver effective and efficient health and safety support tailored to the unique needs of each area. This is a dynamic, purpose-driven team who are committed to maintaining safe environments and supporting services nationally.

About you

You will bring up to 10 years of health and safety experience, with a strong background in verification and assurance activities, including ICAM investigations, risk management, and performance monitoring. You have a relevant health and safety qualification or can demonstrate equivalent experience in complex, high-risk environments—ideally within healthcare or a similar sector.

A deep understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, ACC AEP, and ISO 45001, you'll be confident in applying these frameworks to support compliance and continuous improvement. Your ability to influence stakeholders, analyse complex issues, and provide expert advice is matched by your calm, collaborative approach and strong communication skills.
