  • Dunedin Hospital (with outreach clinics to other centres in the Southern district)
  • Permanent Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
  • Salary: ASMS MECA 2024 (NZD 185, ,980)

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

Dunedin, Lakes and Southland Hospitals provide secondary and tertiary level care to 350,000 people in the lower South Island. We cover a wide geographical area, providing plenty of opportunities for variety and development in our staff's careers.

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative Endocrinologist to join our Southern District team.  The role is expected to be based in Dunedin and will contribute to providing cover across the Southern District.  Our district is the largest in New Zealand and provides care for populations both in urban centres and rural areas.

Our service is predominantly outpatient-focused, with busy endocrine clinics, registrar clinics, and oversight of nurse-led diabetes clinics. While inpatient care is rare, you will provide consultative support for complex endocrine and diabetes cases across the district. You'll also contribute to the on-call roster (8am–4.30pm, weekdays only) and offer clinical advice to colleagues district-wide.

Although this is a District-wide role, the successful candidate will primarily work with the Dunedin hospital team. We are however open to someone based in Invercargill and able to travel regularly to Dunedin hospital to take part in the wider team's activities.

About You

An outstanding team player with a collaborative mindset, you constantly strive to make a positive difference with patients and colleagues alike. An outstanding communicator, you place patients and their whānau at the centre of your practice, and value and respect their culture and beliefs.

You are solutions-oriented, able to follow guidelines but also constantly looking for improvement and development opportunities.

You have a passion for sharing and transmitting knowledge to your wider team, particularly junior members of staff.  In addition to enjoying a diverse workload and an exceptional quality of life, you can look forward to a highly competitive pay rate and a culture where staff are included, valued and respected for their expertise.

To be considered for this role you will need to be FRACP (or equivalent) holding, or be eligible to hold, a vocational registration with Medical Council of NZ. If you are an international candidate you can be considered for this role if you fulfil the eligibility criteria for vocational registration with the MCNZ.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking full-time, part-time, or flexible working arrangements, including combined roles (as available) with other specialties or academic interests. We are open to candidates at all stages of their careers, including those who are newly qualified. Our team is committed to fostering a supportive and collaborative environment where continuous learning and professional development are prioritized. Whether you are just beginning your journey in endocrinology or bringing years of experience, we value curiosity, compassion, and a dedication to excellence in patient care. We believe in nurturing growth through mentorship, shared knowledge, and a culture that encourages innovation and learning at every level
