Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

This role leads the development and implementation of the Community Resilience, Public Education and Engagement portfolios within the Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group. You'll ensure communities are informed, prepared, and empowered to reduce risk and respond effectively to hazards. As Advisor Community Resilience you will be a key member of our Risk Reduction and Resilience team. You will report to the Team Leader Risk Reduction and Resilience

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and deliver public education and risk management programmes
  • Lead multi-agency emergency management projects and stakeholder engagement
  • Provide expert advice and mentoring to build emergency management capability
  • Contribute to policy development and best practice standard
  • Fulfil a senior response role during emergencies

This role requires participation in the Group Emergency Management Office "Duty Officer" role on an agreed weekly roster over a 4 - 6 week cycle.

You're a proactive communicator and relationship builder with a strong background in emergency management, communities and community engagement. You'll have a passion for building resilience, cohesive communications, fostering partnerships and navigating complex multi-agency settings. You thrive in collaborative environments and can lead initiatives that make a real difference.

Mātau ā-Wheako | Experience

  • A degree in Emergency Management or relevant tertiary qualification
  • Strong knowledge of the National CDEM Strategy and Plan
  • Proven experience in planning, communications, and stakeholder engagement
  • Emergency management and/or project management experience (desirable)
  • A full driver's licence and ability to travel across Canterbury
