Kaiāwhina (Learning Assistant) - Maternity Leave cover

Te Uru Karaka Newton Central School is looking for a Kaiāwhina (Learning Assistant) to cover a teacher aide while they are on Maternity Leave.

We are looking for a creative, flexible person capable of working across a variety of year levels. This kaiāwhina would work in our Māori Medium pathway - Level 1 and 2, supporting the tamariki in class to complete learning activities directed by the teachers or to run intervention programmes with small groups and individuals.

The successful candidate will be open to learning, prepared to work collaboratively with staff and contribute to a positive working environment.

We are looking for a kaiāwhina:

• With the reo māori capacity to work in our full immersion pathway and the willingness to grow their reo Māori as needed (speak Māori)
• Adaptable to work across the school if required
• Who can take direction from teachers, syndicate leaders and senior leaders

The position is fixed until 10 August 2026, full time 5 days a week 9am - 3pm (term time only).

You will be employed under the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement 2025. Start date is Monday 9th February 2026.
