McCallum Industries is a proudly Kiwi, family-owned food manufacturer based in West Auckland. Since the late 1970s, we've grown into a trusted name in the FMCG sector, producing household staples under iconic brands like Palm and Only Organic. With a team of 120 and a strong export footprint, we're known for our hands-on culture, high standards, and practical, no-fuss approach.
As we continue to evolve and mature our systems and processes, we're looking for a permanent, part time, HR Advisor to support our people and leaders (particularly on the factory floor) and help embed good people practices across the business.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, this generalist role will work closely with line managers and our wider support teams. You'll be the go-to for all day-to-day HR queries and play a key role in rolling out our HR priorities – from, to supporting leaders with ER issues, to improving our recruitment and onboarding and uplifting compliance and communication. This is a standalone role, but you won't be flying solo – you'll be backed by external HR consultants who can provide support, guidance and a sounding board when needed.
This is an in-office position, working 20 to 25 hours per week.
No two days will look the same and there's plenty of opportunity to help us develop as we continue to build better ways of working. We want someone who's practical, down to earth, and not afraid to get stuck in. This is a chance to help strengthen our practices, with a real focus on doing things better.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide first-line HR advice to leaders and employees across both the plant and office
- Support with investigations, warnings, and general ER matters, ensuring processes align with relevant legalisation and company policy
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment and onboarding
- Partner with managers to improve consistency and compliance with employment documentation
- Maintain up-to-date records, contracts, and policies
- Support engagement with E tū and union processes as needed
About You
- 2–3 years' HR experience, ideally in manufacturing, FMCG, or a blue-collar environment
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and working with newer or developing leaders
- Confident communicator with sound judgement and an ability to build trust quickly
- Strong working knowledge of NZ employment law and best practice HR processes
- Experience working with a unionised workforce is a bonus but not essential
- Approachable, calm under pressure, and a natural problem-solver
Why Join Us
You'll be part of a business that's genuinely proud of what we do and the people who make it happen. This is a great opportunity to work in a company that produces for well-known New Zealand brands and your chance to make a visible difference in a growing business. Perfect for someone who thrives on variety and wants to develop as a trusted advisor.
