Reporting to: Lead Technician / Operations Manager
Role Summary:
As an Electronic Trade Worker in the role of car technican Technician at Infinity Sounds, you will install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and repair audio-visual and associated electronic systems predominantly in automotive/mobile electrical contexts (car audio, security, sensors etc). Your work ensures high quality system performance, compliance with safety standards, and excellent client service.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Installation & Commissioning
- Install AV systems (speakers, amplifiers, head units, wiring harnesses, sensors, cameras, displays) in vehicles or mobile equipment, ensuring correct fit-out and secure mounting.
- Run, terminate and route cabling, connectors, harnesses and related components in accordance with manufacturer instructions and company standards.
- Configure AV equipment (e.g., audio equalisation, speaker balancing, input switching, sensor calibration) and test system operation.
- Integrate AV and electronic systems with vehicle power, data and control systems (ensuring compatibility, correct voltage, grounding, shielding, and isolation where required).
- Commission systems: power-up, measure performance, check for noise/interference, adjust controls/settings, verify interaction with vehicle electronics.
- Maintenance, Repair & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose faults in AV and electronic systems: inspect equipment, measure signal paths, test cables, connectors, power supplies, sensors, audio/video outputs.
- Repair or replace defective or worn parts, wiring, connectors, modules, sensors and harnesses.
- Reassemble, test operate and adjust equipment after repair to ensure full functionality.
- Perform preventive maintenance on installed systems (inspect mounts, check connections, update firmware/software if applicable, clean components).
- Advise clients or internal stakeholders on correct operating procedures and maintenance to minimise future malfunctions.
- Technical Support & Customer Service
- Liaise with clients (vehicle owners, fleet managers, other trades) to clarify AV and electronic system requirements, provide explanations of system capabilities and constraints.
- Provide on-site or mobile service visits as required (as Infinity Sounds is a mobile service provider) and ensure professional presentation and communication.
- Document work performed, record test results, complete job sheets, maintain records of equipment installed, serviced, or repaired.
- Health, Safety & Quality Compliance
- Work in compliance with electrical/electronic safety standards, vehicle safety regulations, safe routing of wiring, secure mounting of equipment, correct vehicle power take-offs and fuse protection.
- Maintain a safe clean working environment in mobile service vehicle and client premises.
- Check that equipment mounting and wiring meet vibration, heat, moisture and vehicle-specific safety requirements.
- Follow Infinity Sounds' quality assurance processes, ensure installations meet company and manufacturer standards.
- Continuous Improvement & Technical Development
- Keep up-to-date with new AV technologies, automotive audio/security accessories, wiring/installation techniques, software and firmware updates.
- Assist in improving installation processes, suggest enhancements to system design, and contribute to the selection of equipment or accessories.
- Support training and mentoring of junior technicians or apprentices where applicable.
- Mobility & Flexibility
- Travel to client sites, work out of the mobile service vehicle, and adjust to variable hours or on-call work as required by the business.
- Coordinate with other trades (mechanical, auto-electrical) to ensure smooth integration of AV systems with vehicle modifications and other services.
2 years of work experience OR Level 4 OR Higher qualification is required for this role
