Packaging Artwork

AtVAPO, we're committed to leading the way in innovation, design integrity, and harm reduction within the vaping industry. Our products reach markets across New Zealand and Australia, and we take pride in delivering premium, compliant, and consumer-safe solutions.
The Role
We are seeking a detail-driven Packaging Artwork & Compliance Specialist with experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals or FMCG. This role is not a creative design position - we already have a dedicated Creative Designer. Instead, this position focuses on technical artwork accuracy, packaging compliance, and version control across New Zealand and Australian markets. Your mission will be to ensure every piece of packaging adheres to brand guidelines, meets legal and regulatory requirements, and is production-ready with absolute precision.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Artwork Management
- Lead and manage the packaging artwork lifecycle from setup to final release.
- Ensure all packaging complies with NZ and AU regulatory standards (warnings, claims, barcodes, symbols, legal text).
- Maintain a master pack copy database and version control for all packaging assets.
- Implement and enforce a robust Artwork QA process to eliminate errors before production.
- Track and interpret regulatory updates, translating them into packaging and artwork rules.
- Manage final approvals and archiving, preventing unauthorised edits or outdated releases.
Technical Coordination
- Review dielines, print proofs, and prototypes for technical accuracy and structural feasibility.
- Liaise with print and packaging suppliers to ensure precision, colour accuracy, and production consistency.
- Collaborate closely with the Creative Lead, who drives the visual direction, to adapt designs into compliant, ready-to-print formats.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work alongside the regulatory, marketing, and product teams to ensure every pack aligns with compliance and business needs.
- Provide technical packaging input during new product rollouts or updates.
What You'll Bring
- 3–5 years' experience in packaging artwork or compliance management (preferably in pharma or FMCG).
- Deep understanding of print production processes, dielines, and artwork setup.
- Exceptional attention to detail — you spot errors others miss (a missing comma, incorrect barcode, or misaligned text).
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop; basic pre-press and print production knowledgerequired.
- Experience managing packaging across multiple markets and interpreting regulatory requirements.
- Strong organisational and project management skills to juggle multiple artwork updates and deadlines.
- A proactive, independent mindset and a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
What We Offer
- A pivotal role in a fast-growing, innovation-led company driving harm reduction.
- The opportunity to work across two dynamic markets - NZ and AU.
- Collaboration with creative, regulatory, and technical experts in a high-quality environment.
- Competitive salary, supportive team culture, and growth opportunities within the business.
