The Opportunity

We're looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Biomedical Technician to join our Service Department, based in Wellington.

This role is essential to ensuring medical and healthcare equipment across New Zealand is safe, compliant, and performing at its best. You'll be responsible for servicing, repairing, validating, and maintaining a wide range of biomedical and hospital equipment — playing a key part in the reliability of equipment used in critical care environments.

The Role

In this role, you'll provide technical expertise across compliance testing, repair, calibration, and validation of medical equipment. You'll respond to urgent service requests, perform scheduled annual maintenance, and maintain accurate documentation to support compliance and safety standards.

You'll be the trusted expert for both electrical and mechanical servicing, working on everything from ward-based equipment to specialised theatre systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, Repair & Maintenance - Perform compliance testing, repairs, validation, and maintenance across a wide range of medical equipment; complete all work to relevant standards and manufacturer recommendations; accurately document findings; and identify unsafe equipment where required.
  • Standards & Compliance - Apply comprehensive knowledge of relevant standards such as AS/NZS 3551:2012, AS/NZS 3760:2010, AS/NZS :2022, and AS/NZS IEC :2022 to ensure all work meets regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Health & Safety - Meet all requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and complete Cubro's mandatory training.
  • ISO Compliance - Perform duties aligned with Cubro's Quality Management System and ISO 9001 standards, completing required training as needed.
  • Team Contribution - Share ideas, use initiative, participate in weekly meetings, and build long-term customer relationships.
  • Equipment Range - Service equipment from ward-level items such as beds, trolleys, chairs, oxygen concentrators, alternating air mattresses, and vital signs monitors, through to theatre equipment including operating tables, surgical lights, pendants, warmers, and integrated theatre systems.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Essential Qualifications & Requirements:
    • NZ Electrical Registration with EWRB
    • Minimum qualification: EAS (Electrical Appliance Serviceperson)
    • Current clean full driver's licence
    Essential Experience & Skills:
    • 5+ years of experience as a general service technician
    • 2+ years' experience in biomedical servicing or a degree in Biomedical Engineering
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills
    • Computer literate with strong Microsoft Office skills
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer interaction skills
    • Strong numeracy and high accuracy in data entry
    • Ability to use a range of tools and diagnostic equipment
    Desirable:
    • Bachelor of Engineering - Biomedical Engineering Technology
    • 5+ years of biomedical equipment service, testing, and compliance experience
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory standards
    • Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
    • Familiarity with CRM systems
    Other Requirements:
    • Wellington-based, with travel across the Lower North Island and Top of the South Island
    • Ability to travel nationally, sometimes at short notice
    • Occasional overseas travel (Pacific Islands or Australia) may be required
    • Ability to travel is essential
