We're seeking a compassionate community connector to work with students experiencing chronic absence and their whānau. You'll build relationships, understand barriers to attendance, and create practical solutions that help young people re-engage with school.

This is hands-on work-home visits, one-to-one support, connecting families with resources, and collaborating with pastoral care teams to make a real difference.

Part time - 16 hours per week, term-time only, Fixed-term for 2 school years

Start date - 21 January 2026

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with students and whānau to develop individualised attendance action plans
  • Conduct home visits and facilitate restorative conversations
  • Arrange practical support (transport, uniforms, kai, devices)
  • Use data systems (KAMAR, Power BI) to track patterns and progress
  • Connect families with external agencies and support services
  • Maintain case notes and report on outcomes

About you:

  • Excellent communicator with genuine empathy and strong professional boundaries
  • Well-organised with ability to work independently
  • Culturally sensitive and respectful of diverse communities
  • Flexible, calm under pressure, and solutions-focused
  • Committed to confidentiality
  • Valid driver's license (home visits required)
  • Desirable - Experience in social work, youth work, or community engagement; knowledge of local support services.

Pay rate will be as per the Support Staff in Schools' Collective Agreement at the Teacher Aide Salary Scale Grade D1 $33.23 per hour.
