We're a 24/7 operation with an incredible team of specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and critical care. ARC North also offers hydrotherapy services.

We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital including full in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

Our Oncology team is expanding and we need another Veterinary Nurse.

The Oncology department at ARC vets is a tight-knit team of wonderful, supportive people dedicated to our patients' comfort and wellbeing. We pride ourselves on kindness, compassion, and working together to make every patient's experience as positive as possible.

We are looking for someone with the ability to multitask up a storm, and problem solve a variety of situations, all while enjoying an interactive and inclusive environment.

A veterinary nursing qualification and/or at least 2 years' experience as a veterinary nurse is required, specialty experience is a bonus

We offer a CPD allowance each year as well as two CPD days a year.

Competitive hourly rate: $29 - $35 gross per hour

Hours of work: 80 hours per fortnight

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • General nursing duties such as IV catheter placement, blood collection, and medication administration.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment around the storage, preparation, administration, and handling of chemotherapy drugs.
  • Building and fostering a trusting relationship with clients and providing support/advice when needed.
  • Administering chemotherapy according to the protocol prescribed by the Oncologist.
  • Monitoring patients under anaesthesia and recovery, ensuring safe and smooth outcomes.
  • Carrying out diagnostic testing at our inhouse laboratory.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Ensuring all patients receive compassionate, low stress, fear free handling.
  • Collaborating with vets, other nurses and support staff to ensure smooth daily operations.

Skills and experience:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Have at least 2 years' experience working as a veterinary nurse and/or hold a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree (overseas equivalent preferable but negotiable) or relevant experience
  • Confidence in perfect IVC placement and blood draws
  • Drive to learn more and gain knowledge
  • Incredible fear/stress free handling
  • Be able to nurse concurrent diseases alongside a cancer diagnosis
  • Able to adapt and be flexible when plans or treatment plans change
  • Be able to work empathetically around cases that  are often highly emotional
  • Have an active interest in updates in veterinary oncology literature and keeping on the pulse with new oncology advancements
  • Be able to work collaboratively with other departments
