What the job involves

This 12-month fixed-term role (parental leave cover) will see you lead the Art Gallery & Museum team, fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration. You'll be responsible for strategic direction, operational and financial excellence, and ensuring our exhibitions, collections, learning and community engagement programmes continue to thrive.

You'll also build strong relationships with iwi, cultural and minority communities, and key stakeholders to ensure that Rokowhiria remains connected to Whakatere Ashburton's diverse population.

Who are we looking for?

We're seeking a visionary leader with:

• A relevant tertiary qualification
• Significant experience in a senior cultural or museum leadership role
• Sound knowledge of legislative requirements and standards for collections management
• A collaborative leadership style and exceptional communication skills
• Commitment to biculturalism and understanding of te ao Māori

As the resident expert on museum practice, you'll require sound knowledge and experience of legislative requirements and practice standards associated with art, archive and object collections management and have a demonstrated interest in regional museums and Aotearoa history. You'll be a great communicator, be outward looking and possess a collaborative leadership style that empowers teams to achieve.
