About the role

As a Senior Controls and Communications Design Engineer, you will deliver high-quality electrical engineering services, managing project design packages from concept through to detailed design for low, medium, and high-voltage installations. You will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, engage and manage specialists, and support continuous improvement across engineering practices and business systems.

The work primarily involves leading the development of controls and communications design for our solar and BESS sites. Key activities include developing, implementing, and maintaining SCADA systems for our sites, developing logic and configuring the plant site controller, and designing communications systems for these sites.

You will support the lead electrical design engineer in completing design drawings, providing equipment specifications, leading procurement of this equipment, and overseeing or undertaking testing and commissioning of these devices in the field.

Your role will also involve providing ongoing operational support to our sister company, NewPower Energy Limited (NEL), who own and operate many of our projects. To undertake these activities, you will work with external stakeholders such as Electricity Distribution Businesses (EDBs), Transpower, equipment suppliers, and consultants.

About you

  • Tertiary degree in engineering is essential
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng or CMEngNZ) or actively working towards
  • Electrical engineering/NZDE with at least eight years' experience
  • Industrial and/or HV design experience, or previous experience in renewable energy, is an advantage
  • Experience in detailed design processes, technical writing, and documentation
