Christchurch Central, New Zealand Seipp Construction Limited Full time

Christchurch | Workshop & Site-Based | Nationwide Project Work

Seipp Construction is looking for an experienced Fitter Welder to join our Christchurch-based mechanical team. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in doing things properly, values safety, and enjoys a mix of workshop fabrication and site-based project work across New Zealand.

If you're the kind of tradesperson who's brilliant at the basics, likes working with good people, and wants to be part of a company delivering complex, high-quality infrastructure projects - we'd like to hear from you.

About the role

You'll work closely with our Mechanical Technicians and Workshop Supervisor, carrying out mechanical fitting and fabrication work both in our Christchurch workshop and on sites nationwide.

Your work will be varied, challenging, and practical — executing mechanical and fabrication activities safely, efficiently, and to a high industry standard.

This role suits someone who is confident working autonomously, but equally comfortable being part of a tight, well-run team.

What you'll be doing

  • Carrying out mechanical fitting and fabrication work in the workshop and on site
  • Working to project plans, specifications, programmes, and budgets
  • Operating plant and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Providing regular updates on progress, productivity, and any risks
  • Supporting continuous improvement and helping lift standards across the team
  • Stepping in to support other key team members when required

Health & Safety – how we work

At Seipp, safety is non-negotiable. You'll:

  • Champion a "no shortcuts" approach
  • Actively support HSQE and ISO compliance
  • Promote a no-blame, high-trust safety culture
  • Ensure all work methodologies support safe project delivery

What we're looking for:

Qualifications & experience

  • Trade Certificate in an engineering trade (or higher)
  • 15+ years' experience in mechanical/fabrication delivery
  • Proven experience working on complex projects involving plant and materials
  • Strong constructability knowledge and practical problem-solving skills
  • Confident decision-maker with the ability to work autonomously

Personal attributes

  • Takes pride in workmanship and doing the job right
  • Adaptable, solutions-focused, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Strong communicator who builds good working relationships
  • Leads by example and is open to coaching and development
  • A genuine commitment to working safely - with the record to back it up

Why join Seipp Construction

  • Work on interesting, technically challenging projects across NZ
  • A strong safety culture with no shortcuts and no blame
  • A team that values accountability, ownership, and quality
  • Opportunities to grow, develop, and have your experience respected
  • Be part of a company you can genuinely be proud to work for
