Thomas Consultants is a growing multi-disciplinary company that offers environmental, planning, engineering, surveying and related services on a range of projects across the Auckland region. We are looking for a forward-thinking, experienced Intermediate Ecologist to join the Planning and Ecology Team in Henderson or Manukau. Our reputation with local and central government and private industry means you will have a variety of private and public projects to work on across a range of client areas.

About the role

Working alongside a small team of dedicated professionals, specialising in wetland, terrestrial, and freshwater ecology, the position presents an excellent opportunity to move your career forward by applying your technical and field skills on a variety of interesting projects.

Your effective self-management attitude will see you excel as you take ownership of your own ecology projects, including feasibility assessments, ecological impact assessments, restoration plans, and NES-F assessments (including wetland delineations and watercourse classifications), while delivering great customer service.

We are looking for an individual with a relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree in ecology, environmental or biological science, botany, zoology, or a related field, current driver's license and at least 5 years' experience as an ecologist.

You will be familiar with the AUP-OP, NES-FW, NPS-FM, and RMA, and will have experience in preparing technical ecology reports, collecting a range of ecological data, GIS and digital mapping, and conducting field investigations. Working knowledge of New Zealand ecosystems, flora and fauna is also essential.
