Bakery Assistant

About the role

We're on the lookout for an experienced Bakery Assistant to join our team at Don Rodrigo's, a well-loved local bakery in the beautiful Nelson Tasman region. This is a full-time role where you'll be working alongside our bakers and pastry chefs to help create the delicious baked goods our customers know us for.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting our bakers and pastry chefs with every step of the baking process — from preparing ingredients to operating equipment and ovens
• Following food safety and hygiene standards with care and consistency
• Keeping your workspace clean, tidy, and well organised
• Helping with restocking and inventory when needed
• Bringing a positive, can-do attitude to our close-knit team

Hours are Tuesday to Friday, 8:00am–3:00pm, and Saturday 5:00am–12:00pm. (Start and finish times may vary slightly with production needs.)

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in a fast paced bakery or hospitality environment — baking or hospitality related references are essential for application to be considered
• A genuine passion for baking and food preparation
• Great attention to detail and the ability to follow recipes accurately
• Physical stamina to keep up in a busy kitchen environment
• Food safety and handling certification (preferred, but not essential)
