Kaitūruki - Residential MH&AOD Support

Te Oranganui is seeking a compassionate Support Worker to provide onsite and overnight care for tangata whai ora in our residential care facility - Te Whare Mahana. This role is central to supporting recovery and wellness, helping individuals strengthen their tinana, wairua, hinengaro, and whānau.
You will work alongside tangata whai ora to improve their lives by supporting whānau connections, developing practical skills such as cooking and budgeting, and encouraging recovery-focused behaviours. Monitoring health and wellness, attending medical appointments, and administering medication safely are key responsibilities. Respect and understanding for those working to change alcohol or drug use is essential, as is applying holistic care principles such as Whare Tapa Whā and Co-Existing Problem (CEP) knowledge.
The role also involves maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. You will oversee household routines, cleaning, infection control, and garden upkeep, while ensuring equipment and facilities are used safely. Supporting weekly shopping, stock management, and reducing wastage are part of keeping the whare running smoothly.
Accurate documentation and clear communication are vital. You will complete daily records, highlight discrepancies, and contribute to reports and service delivery outcomes. Medication administration requires annual competency assessments and adherence to the seven rights of safe practice.
Regular supervision is provided to support your workload, priorities, and wellbeing. This role is rostered and rotating, including weekends, sleepovers, and longer shifts.
