Sous Chef – Full-Time Role at Caldera Vineyard Estate

Location: Akaroa, Canterbury (1 hour 20 minute drive from Christchurch)

Affordable staff accommodation in Akaroa is available for the successful applicant.

Position available for immediate start or by 20th November at the latest.


Hours of Work:

• Guaranteed minimum: 30 hours/week

• Up to 55 hours/week during peak season

• Rostered based on daily opening hours and business needs

• Weekend availability essential – we operate 7 days

• Peak season: up to 6 days/week

• Off-peak: venue closes 2 days/week (scheduled days off)


Sous Chef Wanted – À La Carte Specialist Only

Pay Range: $32–$35 per hour paid weekly

We're on the hunt for a driven, hands-on Sous Chef to join our kitchen. If you thrive under pressure and live for service excellence in a fast-paced à la carte environment, we want to hear from you.

This is not a buffet chef role. We're looking for finesse, timing, and exceptional plating — no shortcuts.


What You'll Bring:


• At least 2 years' experience in a Sous Chef or senior kitchen role

• Strong background in à la carte service (must-have)

• Passion for food, teamwork, and high standards


Key Responsibilities:


• Support the Head Chef and lead the kitchen in their absence

• Assist in menu development, tastings, and recipe refinement

• Supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff

• Execute dishes with precision and creativity

• Monitor stock, manage inventory, and support food cost control

• Ensure compliance with the MPI Food Control Plan

• Collaborate with FOH for smooth, cohesive service

• Contribute to special events and seasonal promotions

• Help with rosters and scheduling

• Maintain equipment and promote sustainable kitchen practices
