As a government entity, Sport New Zealand Ihi Aotearoa is proud to be the guardian of our country's play, active recreation and sporting system, from grassroots to elite sport. We do this through partnerships with national sport and recreation organisations, regional sports trusts, central government bodies, councils and other key stakeholders.

Sport NZ is looking for a skilled Senior Evaluation Advisor to lead strategic and programme-level evaluations that inform decision-making and improve outcomes across the sport and recreation sector.

This role plays a vital part in monitoring and evaluating Sport NZ's strategic frameworks, including Te Pākē o Ihi Aotearoa - the Māori Outcomes Framework - and supports the integration of Te Ao Māori perspectives in evaluation practice.

Reporting to the Evaluation Lead, the Senior Evaluation Advisor will:

  • Lead strategic and programme-level evaluations aligned with Sport NZ's strategy.
  • Develop and monitor outcomes frameworks and measurement approaches.
  • Provide expert advice and build evaluation capability across Sport NZ and its partners.
  • Translate complex evaluation findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and partners to ensure culturally responsive evaluation.
  • Foster an evaluative culture through strong relationship management and knowledge sharing.

The successful individual will have:

  • 5+ years of experience in research, evaluation, or analytics.
  • Proven ability to lead end-to-end evaluation projects.
  • Experience with Kaupapa Māori evaluation or integrating Te Ao Māori perspectives (preferred).
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural intelligence in practice.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
