About the Role:

You will be the go-to specialist for rail infrastructure within the Rail & Steam workshops, you will lead the section's infrastructure projects and contribute to maintenance, preservation, and restoration projects within the section under the guidance of the Head of Collection Workshops and working closely with the Senior Workshop Engineer Rail & Steam. This is a unique opportunity to work in a distinctive setting, contributing to the preservation of New Zealand's railway heritage.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience laying out railway track, producing track condition reports and maintaining railway track to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work and coordinate others in rail infrastructure projects.
  • Have experience in operating workshop machinery and track maintenance equipment, experience operating a hi-rail digger is preferable.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Full driver's licence, forklift licence desirable, but not a deal breaker.
  • An interest in rail heritage artefacts/museums would be beneficial.
