Chef – El Quincho Christchurch
At El Quincho, we don't just cook, we bring fire to life.
Our kitchen is built around the parrilla, the traditional Argentinian wood-fired grill. Every shift is a dance between smoke, timing, and teamwork. We cook with purpose, using locally sourced New Zealand ingredients and Argentinian soul.
We're looking for a Chef who shares that passion, someone who takes pride in doing things right, respects the fire, and values working as part of a tight, honest team.
The Role
Minimum 30 hours per week
You'll work side by side with our Head Chef and team, preparing and cooking El Quincho's signature dishes; from empanadas to slow-grilled meats. You'll take ownership of your section, manage prep, and help us deliver consistent quality and timing in every service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook dishes following El Quincho's recipes and standards
- Manage your prep area, ensuring quality and consistency
- Support service at the parrilla (wood-fire grill)
- Handle wood and fire safely and efficiently
- Keep work areas clean, stocked, and organised
- Follow food-safety and hygiene procedures at all times
- Support the team in busy services and help maintain positive kitchen culture
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years experience in a commercial kitchen
- Passion for grilled meats and fire-based cooking
- Strong attention to detail and ability to stay calm under pressure
- Organised, reliable, and flexible to change
- Knowledge of Argentinian cooking methods is a plus, but not required — we'll teach you
- Basic computer or POS familiarity preferred
