Are you ready to take on a role where you can make a real impact on your community? Join our team as a Plant Operator – Water and help ensure safe, clean water for everyone. You'll be part of a supportive crew, reporting to the Waiora Plant Team Leader, and working hands-on with our water treatment systems.

In this role, you'll monitor and analyse plant operations, follow clear SOPs, and keep everything running smoothly. When challenges pop up, you'll troubleshoot, find smart solutions, and make improvements that keep the plant performing at its best. Some key responsibilities include:

  • Provides operation, monitoring, testing and operational maintenance of all facets of our complex Water Treatment Plant as specified in SOPs, Treatment Plant Management plan, Risk Management plans and/or as requested by Waiora Plant Team Leader – Water.
  • Strong communication skills to appropriately notify key personnel of transgression events. Ensuring that all transgression events are resolved as soon as possible and details of event, impacts, actions, and recommendations to prevent reoccurrence are appropriately recorded in the work management and safety systems.
  • On call Plant Operator responds and initiates actions in response to all operational alarms within 10 minutes of alarm being received and if necessary be on site within 45 minutes. Out of hours and on-call work availability as required.
  • Operate, adjust and undertaking operational maintenance of chemical dosing and pumping system.
  • Ensuring levels of chemicals/equipment maintained above minimum requirements at all times.
  • Contribute to the review of SOPs, Treatment Plant Management Plan and Risk Management Plans
  • Conduct sample collection and perform analysis, monitoring calibration and equipment maintenance that complies with HCC SOPs and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in industrial process operation
  • New Zealand Diploma in Water Treatment (Level 5); or National Diploma in a field related to either processing, the waters and waste industry or environmental or resources studies
  • CDEM Integrated Training Framework - Intermediate level course
  • Experience with operational implementation of relevant HSNO Act, Health and Safety at Work Act and associated regulations, codes of practices and guidelines. SCADA, telemetry and control system operational experience
  • Works systematically to meet commitments and deadlines
  • Experience with identification and assessment of operational risk.
  • Technical ability to follow methods
  • Good observation skills
  • Good verbal and written reporting
  • Ability to identify, evaluate and communicate risk
  • Current Full Drivers licence (Class 1)
