About this role

  • Do you want to make a real difference in your community?

  • Casual on-call position available in Dunedin.

'Kotahi anō te kaupapa, ko te oranga o te iwi' – There is only one purpose to our work: the wellness and wellbeing of our people.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are all about changing lives and creating pathways through meaningful Community Work projects. As a Casual Community Work Supervisor, you will oversee and manage people serving community work sentences while they work on meaningful projects at schools, reserves, community groups, marae, and churches - whatever the community needs.

Our Community Work Supervisors are responsible for the supervision of work parties, planning and organising projects, the development of work skills through pro-social modelling and coaching, ensuring records are accurate and complete, reviewing health and safety requirements, and ensuring the smooth operation of the community work centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in your community. Community work provides a platform for people serving community work sentences to gain new skills while giving back to community at the same time.

This is a casual on-call position so a willingness to work at short notice is required. The role is based in Dunedin and possible days of work are on Wednesdays and Saturdays between the hours of 8.00am – 5.00pm.

Mōu | About you

Community Work Supervisors come from a variety of backgrounds; from trades and farming to office jobs, retail, teaching and social agencies – so your experience could be just what we are looking for. We will give you the training and support you need to become part of our team working to make communities safer.

We are interested in hearing from people who:

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and inspire others.
  • Have the ability to solve problems and work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Are fresh critical thinkers, using curiosity and imagination to generate new ideas.
  • Can operate effectively in a culturally diverse setting and have an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Are positive role models with a firm-but-fair management style.
  • Can operate with high levels of integrity and demonstrate departmental values.
  • Have a full NZ drivers licence including the ability to drive a manual vehicle (you will also be required to tow a trailer at times).

If successful at interview you will be required to complete a criminal history check and undertake a pre-employment drug test as a part of the recruitment process.

Ngā painga | The benefits

The starting hourly rate is $29.83 per hour.
