North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Full time NZ$120,000 - NZ$140,000 per year
  • Permanent, full-time position based in Auckland
  • Drive a key Māori Health Pipeline project with real impact on equity and life expectancy
  • Work directly with participants and communities to design a culturally grounded screening pathway
  • Lead programme delivery in a high-performing, values-led national team

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As the Lung Cancer Screening Project Manager, you will lead and coordinate key projects within the Māori Health Pipeline, with a strong focus on designing and supporting equitable lung cancer screening pathways.

Based in Auckland, you'll drive a new programme of work that ensures Māori provider leadership, engagement and operational needs are embedded throughout the lung screening journey. You'll work closely with study participants, community partners, and internal teams to deliver project outcomes on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.

You'll manage project activities, identify and monitor risks, support procurement processes, facilitate stakeholder input, and provide clear communication throughout. You'll also support participant engagement and will contribute to the development of the wider programme.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to programme design that builds equity in from the very beginning — improving access, earlier detection, and outcomes for Māori and priority populations.

About you

You are an experienced project manager with strong relationship-building skills and a genuine commitment to equity and Māori health gain.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Health, Business or Science
  • At least 5 years' experience in project management in a complex environment
  • Proven experience working with Māori providers and whānau
  • Experience implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action
  • Strong financial literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with senior teams or large, complex programmes
  • Demonstrated ability to scope, plan, prioritise and deliver work programmes
  • A full driver's licence
  • Experience in health research, particularly Māori-led or Pacific-led research
  • Public health or screening programme experience
  • Research management experience

You bring mature communication skills, strong collaboration capability, cultural competence, and the ability to navigate ambiguity with agility and confidence.
