Matamata College is a co-educational state secondary school, located in the heart of the Waikato. The current roll is approximately 850 students (Years Matamata College has a proud history of student achievement since 1918, and our school is at the hub of our local community. A strong rural base has given rise to many successful and varied businesses. We have a valued association with local iwi Ngāti Hinerangi, Ngāti Hauā and Raukawa. Matamata is perfectly located for great access to many outdoor and lifestyle options such as lakes, ocean, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, hot pools and café culture.
We are seeking a passionate and organised Pathways Kaiwhakahaere to champion career development and future-focused learning opportunities for our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and delivery of career education and pathway planning across the school.
- Coordinate and manage the STAR, Gateway, and Secondary Tertiary Programmes (STP).
- Oversee trades training and tertiary education pathways for students.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of vocational and tertiary opportunities.
- Manage budgeting and financial planning for the Pathways learning area.
- Build strong relationships with students, whānau, businesses, iwi, and tertiary/trades providers.
- Represent Matamata College with professionalism and integrity.
Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in careers education, pathways coordination, or student support.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, whānau, and external stakeholders.
- Extensive knowledge of current education and training pathways in Aotearoa New Zealand.
- Financial management experience is desirable.
Position Details:
Location: Matamata, Waikato
Hours: Permanent full-time 37.5 hours/week, term-time only (40 weeks per year)
Start Date: 28 January 2026 (or by negotiation)
Pay Range: Grade D, Step 1
