We are looking for a Teacher of te reo Māori at our School of Secondary Tertiary Studies (SSTS) with a real passion for vocational education, to support our ākonga (students) to gain their NCEA from levels 1-3.

MIT's Tertiary High is an exciting secondary school structure that functions within MIT- and offers year 11-13 ākonga a second chance to re-engage with NCEA levels 1-3. We offer a low ratio of ākonga to teacher. With a focus on achievement standard school-based subjects, we seek committed teachers who thrive on motivating and engaging ākonga to achieve to high standards. We offer competitive wages that align with those in the secondary sector and have proved to be a positive career/promotion pathway for teachers into both the secondary and tertiary sectors.

The Secondary Tertiary High School is quite different to a conventional mainstream school setting. It has a small roll (200 students) and a low teacher-student ratio because its purpose is to manaaki our rangatahi for whom mainstream high schools are not meeting their needs. We provide a high level of pastoral care and dedicated teaching time, and plenty of whānau involvement to support our rangatahi to be successful.

The successful applicant will need a current teacher registration, proven recent teaching experience with NCEA in a NZ secondary school, a current teaching qualification and recent experience in assessing NCEA te reo Māori from Years 11 to 12. Applicants should also supply information on supporting subjects. This could be Performing Arts, ( Haka and Waiata) or another subject of your choice.
