Background

Fonua Ola is a Pasifika Social Service within the Auckland region. In 2013 Fonua Ola Network became a Social Service incorporating other Pasifika Social Service providers to come under its umbrella. Fonua Ola has also become a newly established Health Provider since April 2021.

Are you a registered Social Worker with experience working in the family harm sector? Are you passionate about helping Pasifika families. Can you speak a Pasifika language?

Purpose of position:

To make contact and engage with our Pasifika clients/families via home visits to assess their immediate safety or risk

Work with other Fonua Services and or other agencies in providing support for families including referring and transitioning families to other providers.

Actively liaise with other services for the purpose of ensuring safety, mitigating risk and accountability in all services

Engages in a way that is Va affirming, warm, welcoming and caring which elicits trust and embeds hope (without underestimating risk)

Assessing and monitoring safety and risk is a critical component of family harm/social work practice, as the wellbeing of client, whanau, practitioner, and other is to be considered in their approach and practice.

Key accountabilities and expectations:

Engage with family, aiga and whānau to understand the dynamics that are occurring within that family, aiga or whānau environment, identifying the initial and emerging strengths, needs and risks.

Respond to immediate risk (crisis), while maintaining focus on family, aiga or whānau and child-centric responses that identify early intervention opportunities (non-crisis).

Ensure that risks are appropriately identified and escalated through the correct channels.

Provide initial and ongoing support, wherever possible working with aiga, famili or whānau (victims, perpetrators and children at risk), linking them with right people, resources and ensuring the necessary partnerships and relationships are in place to support families, aiga and whānau with their social, emotional, material and spiritual needs and aspirations.

Following legislative requirements, and Fonua Ola Network policies and practices always

Update Continuing Professional Development Log (CPD), meet any requirements of Social Work Registration Board (SWRB), and comply with their Code of Conduct

You will be supported in your role with a mobile phone and laptop, have your annual practicing certificate fees paid and be offered ongoing professional development.
