Motetunga| About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Disability Advisor to join Oranga Tamariki. In this role you will be providing support to Oranga Tamariki managers, frontline kaimahi and contracted partners who are working with disabled tamariki, rangatahi and wh nau.
You will be supporting practitioners to confidently work with disabled tamariki, rangatahi and their wh nau and be working alongside regional and site managers to find creative solutions and developing strategies to find new ways of overcoming obstacles and support the best outcomes possible.
The preferred location for this role is Dunedin. Please note this role supports sites across the whole of the lower South Island.
Travel will be required for this role with approximately one overnight of travel required per month.

Key requirements of the role include:
A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience relevant to disability. Alternatively, a qualification as a nurse, teacher, occupational therapist, social worker or another recognised and relevant professional background.
Experience working in the disability sector and/or personal experience of disability (either caring or personal).
A clean, current driver's licence is essential and a willingness to drive the Ministry's vehicles or their own adapted vehicle if required.
Knowledge of and understanding of key disability related legislation and the ability to use them effectively.
Experience in supporting people to navigate the disability system successfully, even when they find it difficult to access services.
Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga M ori, and Pacific peoples culture.
