Motus Hydraulics is a leading New Zealand manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders for OEM customers across NZ, Australia, Canada and the USA. We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist with strong programming ability, CNC machining centre and lathe experience, and a solid background in manual machining.
This is a key role for a capable, hands-on machinist who enjoys precision work, problem-solving and contributing to a high-performance engineering environment.
About the Role
As an experienced CNC Machinist at Motus, you will take responsibility for programming, setting, and operating CNC machining centres and CNC lathes, as well as using manual lathes and machining equipment when required. You'll produce high-accuracy parts for hydraulic cylinder components and help ensure our machining standards remain world-class.
This role requires technical experience, good machining judgement and a strong commitment to accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
• Program, set up and operate CNC machining centres
• Program, set up and operate CNC lathes
• Produce precision hydraulic cylinder components (rods, glands, caps, mounts etc.)
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and surface finish requirements
• Perform manual turning and machining as required
• Use measuring equipment (verniers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure accuracy
• Optimise tooling, speeds and feeds for efficient production
• Troubleshoot machining issues and improve processes
• Maintain cycle times, quality standards and safe working practices
• Keep work areas clean, organised and aligned with 5S principles
What You'll Bring
• Strong experience programming and operating CNC machining centres
• Experience programming and operating CNC lathes
• Solid background in manual turning and general machining
• Strong understanding of tooling, fixturing, feeds/speeds and machining methods
• Ability to read detailed engineering drawings confidently
• High accuracy in measuring and verifying critical dimensions
• Ability to problem-solve machining issues and optimise processes
• Reliability, teamwork and a commitment to precision
• A positive attitude and willingness to support a high-performing workshop
Experience with Fanuc controls is an advantage, but not essential for the right candidate.
