Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

In this Associate role, you will play a key role in the technical and project delivery requirements across Beca's Power business for the Primary Electrical Engineering practice area. You will be joining an international team of experienced electrical engineering specialists.

Together you will:

  • Design and deliver critical Power primary, substation, and infrastructure-related projects across a vast range of project types
  • Create High Voltage (HV 220kV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV 500kV) electrical conceptual and detailed designs
  • Use the latest digital design technologies to prepare substation layouts, equipment specifications, HV/MV cable sizing calculations, earthing design, and apply safety standards
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the next generation of Primary Electrical Engineers
  • Support training and verification processes for engineering teams
  • Lead work packages and be accountable for financial and programme outcomes
  • Support client management, bidding, and preparation of project proposals
  • Manage multiple workstreams and adapt to changing project deliverables and timeframes
    Communicate proactively with stakeholders and collaborate with Beca's leading design experts

Your primary and substation design skills are grounded in solid fundamentals, proven through experience leading Primary design on complex substation projects. You have experience delivering high voltage substation designs, ensuring quality and accuracy while guiding others.

You bring:

  • Experience producing substation layouts, equipment lists, clearance checks, and HV cable designs
  • Familiarity with New Zealand and Australian regulations
  • Proficiency in CYMCAP, CDEGs, Autodesk SBS, Inventor, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation (advantageous)
  • Passion for mentoring and developing senior and graduate engineers
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills across functions and disciplines
  • A positive attitude, curiosity, and a good sense of humour
    Ability to lead conversations and understand technical considerations across diverse backgrounds
