About the Role
Oversee the Samsung Electronics New Zealand Legal Team and manage all legal affairs, including providing business and advisory support to the executive and operational teams, Regional Headquarters, and Samsung Headquarters. Responsibilities also include handling regulatory matters, company secretary duties, government relations, insurance management, contract drafting, review, and negotiation, as well as ensuring compliance and providing employee training.
What You'll Do
- Develop, implement and manage legal risk minimisation strategies and initiatives
- Represent the organisation in litigious actions in relation to claims made against the organisation
- Manage litigation, arbitration, and mediation
- Provide senior level of guidance and advice to senior management and line management on legal issues affecting their areas of responsibility
- Prepare, review and negotiate contracts
- Document due diligence procedures to ensure promotional materials are not misleading or deceptive
- Manage the legal review of the Samsung websites and other online content.
- Maintain government relations
- Provide counsel to management on government relationships, strategy and implications of impending legislative changes.
- Provide advice in relation to the Companies Act and other related legislation
- Identify areas for improved corporate governance
- Undertake compliance training to employees.
- Management of all insurances, including negotiations with brokers and insurance providers
- Oversee the Regulatory Affairs Officer to ensure the organisation meets its regulatory requirements
- Oversee communication with factories, test labs & product managers in order to progress product certification in accordance with marketing release schedules (as required as secondary back up)
- Interprets relevant legislation and ensures any claims by the organisation are well founded and legally compliant.
- Develop strong relationships across all areas of the business
- Progress communicated on a timely basis and in an effective format enabling managers and the wider company to understand progress, issues and opportunities.
About You
- Bachelor of Laws and admission to the High Court of New Zealand, with a current NZ practising certificate.
- 10+ years' experience as a lawyer in a law firm or as an in-house legal counsel
- Worked in a reputable law firm or as an in-house legal counsel, preferably in the electronics industry or related fields.
- Expertise in business and commercial law, competition law, contract law, employment law, and consumer law, with experience in litigation and e-commerce matters.
- Demonstrated experience in the areas of trade practices.
- Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
