About the roles I Mō te tūnga
We are seeking an analyst for each of the following teams:
- In the Ministerial and Executive Services Branch you will will be involved in communicating about the work of the Defence agencies across a range of Ministerial Servicing tasks. This will incude providing accurate and transparent responses to correspondence, parliamentary questions and Official Information Act requests.
- In the Governance and Assurance Branch you will provide support, advice and secretariat services to Defence Boards and Committees.
- In the Defence Assessment team you will support investigative, evidence-based evaluations, reviews and assessments of both the Ministry and the NZDF.
To be successful we have listed the key requirements below:
- A degree or postgraduate degree in international relations, political science, defence or strategic studies, economics, law, or an analytical or equivalent discipline
- An ability to plan, organise and manage competing priorities to deadlines
- Be inquisitive and prepared to suggest innovative solutions to practical problem solving
- An interest in policy formulation and government processes
- Ability to write and communicate complex ideas to a high standard
- Can build trust and maintain relationships and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Familiarity with the defence sector would also be beneficial, but is not essential

In addition to delivering the work of these teams, you will work closely with Ministry leaders in defence policy, international engagement and for the delivery of defence capability projects.

Who we are I Ko wai mātou
We are the Government's lead civilian advisor on defence. We also purchase major equipment which becomes a capability when it is used by those in service of the New Zealand Defence Force.

Salary and Benefits I Utu ā-Tau
The anticipated starting salary for these roles is around $66,402. Appointment will be based on skills and experience.
