The opportunity:
Manukau Health Park includes Manukau SuperClinic, which provides outpatient appointments, and Manukau Surgery Centre, which offers day surgery services and elective surgeries for patients. As part of the Grow Manukau Project, we are looking for a motivated and experienced clinical pharmacist to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative, patient-centred care and drive quality improvement initiatives.
With increased theatre and ward capacity amongst the many exciting developments underway at Manukau Health Park, there is a need to grow our clinical pharmacy presence and build on our existing services which include regular attendance at the General Surgery pre-admission clinic, clinical coverage of the inpatient wards, as well as support for the Manukau Infusion Centre and outpatient clinics.
This new senior role will be based primarily at Manukau Health Park and calls for a self-motivated clinician who thrives in a more autonomous environment and is confident working independently while collaborating effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to:
- Lead and develop clinical services
- Mentor and support rotational pharmacists
- Represent Pharmacy and strengthen partnerships across the MDT
Your main responsibilities include:
- Providing clinical pharmacy services to patients, both in the outpatient and inpatient settings
- Medicines reconciliation, peri-operative medication review and optimisation, responding to queries from doctors and nurses, patient counselling and discharge support where needed
- Promoting evidence-based medicine and patient-centred care
- Contributing towards/leading quality improvement and medication safety initiatives
- Continuing to grow your clinical expertise and contributing to education and training of your colleagues and other professions
We are looking for a pharmacist who is/has:
- New Zealand Registered Pharmacist with current APC or eligibility to obtain one
- At least 3 years, preferably 5 or more years of hospital experience in a clinical setting, including clinical experience in adult Medicine and Surgery
- Clinical experience in multiple surgical specialties (e.g. General Surgery, Orthopaedics) preferred but not essential
- Able to work independently, whilst staying connected with the wider pharmacy team based at Middlemore Hospital
- Adaptable and assertive in the MDT environment
- Patient-focused, enthusiastic and driven
- Excellent communicator with sound problem-solving skills
- Curious, reflective and motivated in continuous improvement
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in clinical pharmacy (not essential)
- Able to work flexible hours (such as participating in our oncall and weekend rosters)
